Carey was 5'10 inches tall when she became a leading model. She was a popular model among American fashion designers Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren was very high. Her father was a prominent scientist and was recognized as the Scientist in 1979 by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Because of his career Carey grew up all around the globe. After she graduated from the University of Colorado in Colorado Springs, she started to model on the side. It caught the attention of a Ford Model Agency New York. In 1980, she moved to France for a brief period of time, and lived in Paris and Bordeaux, before returning to New York in order to pursue an acting career. Her work was showcased on Vogue and Glamour pages. She attended full-time classes at New York University, obtaining her major in Literature in between assignments as a model. In time, she began to become interested in acting and studied at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. In 1986, she made her debut in acting with a minor character as a minor character in "Club Paradise" in the film "Club Paradise" with Robin Williams. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, white-water rafting, wind-surfing and climbing rocks.
